Flash Floods in Freeport Area, 1 Person Died

Heavy rain that flushed the some area of Papua and its surroundings resulted in a flood disaster. On Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 4.00 pm heavy rain that occurred in PT Freeport Tembagapura Area resulted in flash floods. Heavy rain with high intensity in the region makes the water debit is increasing. Water also flooded Tembagapura and Barak L Freeport Hospital.

At night, precisely at 8.45, Freeport employees was evacuated because the water mixed with mud seamkin increased. Then later, at 9.00 pm, there was a landslide around the back of Tembagapura Hospital causing left and right side of the road in front of YPJ Tembaga School to break up and can not passable. At 10.00 pm, it was reported that one PJP employee who worked night at Power Plane Tembagapura passed away due to being swept away.

The flash floods caused damage to roads, bridges, waterways and most of the power plants electricity and made Tembagapura and Gidden Valley were damaged. In addition, the evacuation team is also continuing to evacuate one of the employees affected by this disaster.
