7.9 SR earthquake in Solomon Not Potential Tsunami in Indonesia

On 22 January 2017 there was a 7.9 SR earthquake at 11:30 in Northwest Honiara, Solomon Islands with epicenter at coordinates 6.11 LS 155.18 east longitude.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), an earthquake with a depth of 163 km is likely to have tsunami impacts in several surrounding locations such as Kieta, Rabaul (Papua New Guinea) and Panggoe, Falamae and Ghatere (Solomon Islands).

Although the earthquake posed a threat around the area, but according to BMKG, the earthquake had no tsunami potential in the Indonesian territory. For that people are encouraged to remain calm.
