WHO declares monkeypox an international health emergency

On Saturday, July 23, 2022, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Secretary General of the World Health Organization (WHO), declared the monkeypox outbreak a global health emergency. Thus, the international community is expected to pay more attention and take preventive measures.

Monkeypox or monkeypox is an endemic disease originating from West and Central Africa and is caused by the human monkeypox virus (MPXV) orthopoxvirus from the poxviridae family which is zoonotic or a disease that is transmitted from animals to humans.

Tedros Adhanom further explained that previously the World Health Emergency Committee (WHO) had held a meeting to discuss further the outbreak of monkeypox or monkeypox and check the latest information about this disease.

The results of the discussion, which was attended by experts from all over the world, concluded that the monkeypox outbreak was one of the outbreaks that were declared a global health emergency. This was stated after experts saw that there were many "unusual" aspects shown by the monkeypox outbreak.

With this statement, all people, including Indonesia, are expected to remain calm and start increasing vigilance to minimize the potential spread of Monkeypox or monkeypox in Indonesian society.

Continue to apply clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS), discipline health protocols, and follow the latest information regarding the development of monkeypox in Indonesia from the government or various media that can be accounted for the authenticity of the information.

Immediately examine the nearest health facility if you experience various symptoms of the disease, so that you can immediately get the treatment that is fast, appropriate, and by the results of the diagnosis of the symptoms that appear.
