Flooding occurred in a number of areas in Jakarta and its surroundings on Wednesday morning January 1, 2020, after high-intensity rain throughout the day flushed the region. This rain also caused several rivers around the capital to overflow, making the situation worse.
The Health Crisis Center immediately responded to this incident by forming an RHA team and coordinating with cross programs and related sectors. In addition, the PKK also distributed rubber boat assistance to evacuate victims of the disaster. Until this news was revealed there were at least 18 people killed, 10 people were seriously injured, 100 people were slightly injured, and 31,212 people had to evacuate.
Previously, the Meteorology and Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) had previously predicted rain in all regions of Jakarta on New Year"s Eve. According to BMKG, moderate to heavy rain that flushed Jakarta since Tuesday (31/12) night was not yet the peak of the rainy season. The peak is expected to occur in mid-January to early March.
